Summer Send-Off BBQ Brings Laughter, Music, and Connection

As the school year comes to a close, the students gathered on June 27, 2025, for a well-deserved celebration, and what a night it was! Under the soft summer sky, students, staff, and friends came together for an evening filled with laughter, sizzling BBQ, lively games, and unforgettable karaoke moments at the student housing building.

While Fu-Hung Lin, who manages all student events, prepared the sides and drinks, Housing Manager Eric Cornelius handled the grill, serving up perfectly charred burgers and hot dogs that kept everyone coming back for seconds, and even thirds! Program Director, Zalen Crowder, also stepped in to help on the grill, trading her laptop for tongs and getting in on the fun of flipping burgers and hot dogs.

Throughout the courtyard, the spirit of connection and culture was in full swing. Some students gathered around a Mahjong set, while others introduced Director Crowder to the game of Johnny Whoop—and let’s just say, the rules may have been simple, but Director Crowder’s reactions were anything but. It sparked a wave of laughter and lighthearted confusion that brought everyone a little closer together.

Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, and it began to rain. While some took that as an opportunity to wrap up the evening, the night definitely didn’t end there. The remaining guests and staff migrated to the ACEE office, where the celebration continued. With music filling the air and positive energy all around, the students took the spotlight with performances that showcased their awe-inspiring talent. Director Crowder was even encouraged to join in a group karaoke sing-along of Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” One moment she was cheering from the sidelines, and the next she was inspired to join in, belting out the chorus with a crew of talented and smiling students.

What made the evening even more special was the chance for the ACEE team to connect with students who don’t live in the housing building. It was a rare and meaningful opportunity to meet, mingle, and share in the joy of a night not defined by classes or deadlines, but by community. Seeing everyone so relaxed and enjoying each other’s company was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.

As the stars came out and the last songs faded, it was clear this wasn’t just a party. It was a celebration of connection, shared experiences, and the kind of joy that lingers long after the last burger is eaten. Here’s to another year of growth, laughter, and the bonds that make it all worthwhile.

A heartfelt congratulations to our 2025 graduates!
